News Letter April 2016

Kia Ora Whanau,

We have been a little bit quieter over the past week as it has been school holidays. But that does not mean we have been any less busy during our days at Mt Royal. The children here have still been learning and investigating as usual.

What has been happening?

Our children here have been very busy with so many interests over the last couple of months. We have been focusing on our bodies which incorporated how to stay healthy and the children enjoyed learning about bones and different parts of body. Next it was onto animals! The children have enjoyed exploring role play as animals, Oden the dog is a favourite as well as tigers. Then in the evening some children were on a hunt and I wondered if they had heard of the story ‘we are going on a bear hunt’ so I read the book to the children and this has reignited their curiosity for inventions (traps)

and maps to find treasure. It also is a great way to continue their exploration of animals and staying fit as the book incorporates all these themes.

If you have books on any of the above interests please feel free to bring in and share with us.

What is New?

The children created a race track outside, it is always changing in design as the children love to design and create new challenging tracks.

The bubble station outside has been a great success too. The bubble station looks simple but it covers many areas of the curriculum, science is obvious but holding the wand and dipping the wand into the tube is working on the children’s fine motor control which will help them to develop their writing skills. It is also maths as we have competitions to see how many bubbles we can pop in 30 seconds!

We are using our Mt Royal Early Learning Centre Facebook page (just search our name). So go have a look and check out our photos which we update regularly.

ERO came and we look forward to reading the report soon

Please encourage your child to sign in everyday

Please let them try to write their name independently. It may not seem like it but their circles and lines are the first step/stage to forming letters.
